Take Me Out to the Ballgame

We aren’t big 4th of July celebrators.  No on parades, large bbq’s or fireworks displays. When we lived in California, our daughter always used to bemoan the fact that we didn’t celebrate like her friends’ families did.

So this 4th isn’t going to feel a lot different for us, except for one thing.

I love going to a Seattle Mariners baseball game on the 4th! It feels fitting to celebrate the 4th with ‘America’s pastime’. I’m not a big baseball fan, but this is the exception.  Just going to T-Mobile Park is a event and it is fun to see everyone decked out in their Mariner’s version of 4th of July gear.  We get our hot dog, an adult beverage (hard cider for me), walk around and just take in the patriotic vibes.  Oh, then there is the game.  This is usually the only game we go to each season and we like to make the most of it.

We then cap it off at home by watching a Capitol 4th on PBS.  It is usually on the corny side, but it is our tradition.  And that is about as close to fireworks as we want to get. It is still on this year, in a virtual sort of way.

And I am prepared for what I consider the BIG EVENT of the weekend: HAMILTON!  It starts streaming on Disney + and I am all signed up. I am late to the cult of Hamilton.  Many of my friends saw it live.  I got into the soundtrack about a year ago and have been hooked ever since. I am sure I will be compelled to blog about it next week, so stay tuned.

As always, I am ending my week with King County COVID 19 data as of July 1, 2020:

  • Positive tests: 10,356 (up 744 from last week)
  • Hospitalizations: 1600 (up 39 from last week)
  • Deaths: 589 (up 4 from last week)

Mask up, wash your hands, stay six feet apart and, other those minor inconveniences, have a good weekend!

As of Tuesday, businesses in WA can’t serve customers without face coverings.
