Anyone up for shopping?

From the time I was a kid, I loved August.  Not for the weather; I loved to do my back to school shopping.  I liked getting my school supplies and buying some new clothes. For me, the year starts in September because I loved school.

As an adult, my love for shopping persisted.  I like this time of year because, as an ‘autumn’, my colors start showing up in stores.  A favorite day for me has been a shopping trip with my best mate.  We were always excited about the Nordstrom anniversary sale that starts in August and couldn’t wait to pick up some new things for fall.  The sale isn’t what it used to be, but that isn’t today’s topic.

My husband and I went to the U district in Seattle this week.  He asked me if I wanted to go to University Village.  University Village is one of my favorite shopping spots.  I didn’t even hesitate for one minute with my answer, NO!  Granted it was a hot day and there is a pandemic……but still, I have no desire to shop. And I don’t think I am alone in this sentiment.

The pandemic has changed so much for all of us.  Shopping is only one of the many casualties.

I can only imagine how tough it is for kids (and their parents) to have the uncertainty about school starting and school shopping!  Will they actually go to school, or will they continue remote learning?  And will people be returning to the workplace anytime soon and need new clothes?  Or will they continue their ZOOM lifestyle in athleisure?

For me, I often shop for a trip.  I always seem to need something new to hop on a plane!  With no travel in sight, my current wardrobe will do the trick.

While I miss shopping, none of my favorite haunts have any appeal. It is hard to visualize a time when I will be eager to shop again!
