Cutting it Close

This post could also be titled, ‘best laid plans’.  We will see which is correct.

Anyway, I didn’t go to my class reunion or join my friends in Vail this week.  I am COVID phobic, have a trip to Canada planned for next week, and wanted to be sure to not be exposed before traveling.  Our Canadian trip is our consolation prize for not being able to go to Europe as planned.

In order to cross the border, we need to follow the Canadian requirements, be fully vaccinated, and have a negative PCR test (taken within 72 hours before crossing). We got our PCR test and have the results.

But things never quite go according to plan for me.

I have laid low for most of the last 18 months.  I have done some traveling but have stuck pretty close to home since Delta ruled the land.

Pretty much the only thing I do on a fairly regular basis is get my haircut at a salon.  My stylist and I are both fully vaccinated and we always mask up.  I had my haircut on Tuesday and got a call on Wednesday from the salon manager.  Wouldn’t you know, I was exposed to COVID there (☹)!

This is the first call I have received about a possible exposure – talk about cutting it too close at the salon!

So now what?!

I turned to the trusty CDC page on Isolation and Quarantine to refresh my knowledge:

People who are fully vaccinated do NOT need to quarantine after contact with someone who had COVID-19 unless they have symptoms. However, fully vaccinated people should get tested 3-5 days after their exposure, even if they don’t have symptoms and wear a mask indoors in public for 14 days following exposure or until their test result is negative.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, July 29, 2021

Since I am fully vaccinated X 3, I don’t need to quarantine.  I need to wear a mask indoors (I do that already) and be tested.  A positive test will usually show up on days 3-5 post exposure.  My test today was on Day 3 and was negative, so I will take an antigen test on Sunday and again on Monday before departing as extra insurance.

If the both antigen tests are also negative, and I continue to feel fine……off to Canada, it is!  I will bring a large supply of masks and another antigen test kit with me…… just in case 😊
