Functional & Fabulous

We are settled in our apartment in Liguria. We have been renting the same apartment for about 15 years.

After climbing 12 steep slate steps, we are there. The apartment has one bedroom with a scary loft, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, and a large living eating area. All are minimally furnished.

It is functional in a basic way. Every time we come, it is a little more basic. For example, the couch used to have pillows but they have been MIA for awhile. This time, both living room lamps are gone. I tried to get one from the non-English speaking key holder, but he kept trying to give me a new lightbulb. Thanks Google translate! We also don’t have a kitchen towel this time. As usual, we have to buy toilet paper, dish soap, etc.

Since we will be here for awhile, I will see how I ‘make do’ after not having all the goodies I take for granted at home, including a washer, dryer, and microwave!

Now to the fabulous that makes it all worth it!

The apartment is in a beautiful setting. There are views of vineyards out our front door, along with cool old houses. There are citrus trees with citrus out in full force.

We love walking through a garden path that takes us into town. We can easily walk to get a cappuccino and groceries. We can also walk to the beach in less than 30 minutes.

So, for us this is the perfect combo of simplicity, rural scenes, local services, and the beach to boot!

The fabulous setting is one of the many reasons we keep coming back!
