One of the activities we enjoy most is having breakfast out. That activity has been on pause for about 16 months around here. Our favorite spot in Tacoma continues to be closed.
Today we tried a new spot, Cook’s Tavern, and it was spot on! It is in our favorite Tacoma neighborhood. It is always a little dicey to try something new in the restaurant arena, but we are so glad we did. Our food was great.
As I am sure is true in many places, the servers were struggling. I imagine many of them are likely new or rusty, at a minimum. Fortunately, we weren’t in a hurry and could enjoy some leisurely time together drinking coffee.
I am viewing this summer from the lens of it being a ‘pandemic lull’. It might be the beginning of the end, but I am not necessarily holding my breath.
Just like any lull, this might be a good time to prepare for what may be coming (another wave of COVID -19? vaccine resistance to variants? booster shots?). It also just might be a good time to enjoy each moment to the fullest.

We will definitely be heading back to Cook’s Tavern for breakfast again soon and I plan on savoring everything else this summer has to offer.
See you on Wednesday.
