We completed our Oregon migration on Sunday with a visit to our daughter, her husband, and their well-loved dog, Herbie. They live in Portland.

We stayed at the Residence Inn Portland Downtown Riverplace.  The hotel windows had been boarded up for a time due to protests.  We learned I.C.E. headquarters are in that area.  We didn’t see any protesters while we were there.  People were out and about a bit, with activities limited due to the weather and the pandemic. We felt perfectly safe.

Our daughter and her husband were married at Redhawk Winery outside of Salem 7 years ago.  Our daughter went to graduate school in Salem and became a winery member when they first opened and she was still in school.  Our daughter and her husband treated us to an afternoon of wine tasting there and it was delightful from start to finish!  We met Betty, one of the owners.  Her husband, John, was a Harvard classmate of our new Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.  They are in touch frequently and Betty is hoping some Redhawk wines show up at a State Department dinner!

Their wines were all very good.  I treated myself to some newly released 2020 Pinot Gris that was a very nice drink!  The tasting area was well ventilated and open to a view of the vineyards and the valley.  We had a great time!

We capped the day off with dinner at a Cena in the Sellwood neighborhood in Portland.  My husband and I are suckers for Italian food and their menu is full of tempting dishes.  I had house made ravioli stuffed with potatoes and ricotta and topped with hedgehog mushrooms.  I ate every bite.

Our daughter always rolls out the red carpet for us and plans a thoughtful itinerary.  Sunday was no exception!

Our daughter’s husband recently lost his mother.  It has been tough for him and we were happy to be able to spend some time with him.

Our thanks and love to both of them….and Herbie, of course!

See you on Friday.
